Paper texture

Step 1

Create a new document of size 500×500 pixels and add a  dark radial gradient

k1

Step 2

Paste in the paper texture. Go to image>Adjustments>Desaturate and change your layer blend mode to “overlay”. Now create a new layer, select a large soft brush with black as foreground color and go around the edges of the background. Switch the opacity to 50% and apply the gaussian filter (Filter>Blur>Gaussian Blur) to make the brush effect softer.

Tha background is ready!

k2

Step 3

Select the type tool and make a  white K. The font I used is Museo (download the font for free)

k3

Step 4

Ctrl-click on the text layer to select its pixels. Go to Select>Modify>Expand and put a value of 10 pixels. Now create a new layer and fill the selection with white. Entitle this layer “letter”.

k4

Step 5

To create the violet nice effect I used a combination of layer styles (right click on the layer and choose Blending Options). You can see the styles and reproduce them by downloading the Photoshop file at the end of the article.

k5

Step 6

Select a white basic brush of 1px with white as foregorund color. Make sure to select Shape Dynamics in the brush options (Window>Brushes>Shape Dynamics). Now create a new layer and select the pen tool  and drawn a path like the one shown below:

k6

Step 7

Right-click and select Stroke Path. Right-click again and Delete Path. This is the result:

k7

Step 8

This simple technique can be used to add ornamental lines to our works.

k8

Step 9

Now lets create the shadow. Ctrl-click on the “letter” layer to select its pixels. Create a new layer and collocate it below the “letter” one. In the new layer fill the selection with black to obtain a black K. Enlarge it, apply a gaussian filter around 10px and set the opacity to 50%.

k9

Step 10

In conclusion I decided to apply another filter. Then right-click on the “letter” layer, create a new layer above the letter one, make sure to have black and white as foreground and background colors, and apply the clouds filter (Filter>Render>Clouds). Switch the layer blending mode to “overlay”.

We’ve finished! You can also add some vectors to the background to make it cooler. I Have used some free vectors from Go Media Arsenal site

Now I’m interested in your feedbacks! What do you think of my first photoshop tutorial? Any suggestions?

Interesting idea using text. I think adding this to some other styles would make the text even more killer.

I love the color purple its my favorite and I love this tutorial. Purple is sexy, sensual and mysterious…orange is an obnoctious color and is only good for prison jump suits and traffic cones. Good job!

PS:I think hobo and bobo are the same person…
